Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Furthur Song Stats

The question of whether Furthur has played Lazy River Road came up on another thread, and while I was trying to find that out, I stumbled onto this ... so I'm posting here for anyone interested.

It's detailed Furthur stats from someone who probably loves PowerPoint presentations and apparently has a lot of time on their hands :-) (Not that I can talk, since I found it, LOL). Song stats from spring tour 2011:

There's also this site, for what it's worth. Which doesn't seem to be much in terms of accuracy; I have a copy of 6/30/10, and they played Colors of the Rain (a new Phil song that I really love), but that show doesn't show up on this ... still, it has a list of some of the songs they've been doing (albeit with probably wrong numbers) and it seems to work for other bands, too. So FYI:

Ha! That's my blog.

I don't love PowerPoint, but do love data analysis and visualization.

Don't have too much time on my hands (actually, just the opposite, I've got three kids under 10)... but everyone needs a hobby I guess.

Finally, I've never brought a laptop to a show and have never taken notes (except for setlists in pre-Internet days).

Lazy River Road was played on 3/12/2010, which I'm sure everybody has figured out by now since its listed as the featured show on here.

Also, it was played at a "Live Rehearsal Session at the Palm Ballroom in San Rafael. I don't see a recording on archive and don't know if one exists. From further.net...

Nice stuff, Q.

Are you a Tufte fan? http://www.edwardtufte.com/tufte/
I went to his seminar in ATL a couple of years ago—it was interesting (and he gives you copies of his four big books.)

I saw this show (and DeadATL) this past spring in ATL.

I enjoyed it and my 20 y/o really enjoyed it.

Yes... huge fan of Tufte and others like him. I am amazed at what those guys can do to organize and make sense of large data sets.

In less nerdy news, I'm getting pumped to meet and listen to Melvin Seals in a couple of hours!

Thanks everyone for visiting the blog.

I'm glad people do this type of thing but I find it a bit odd nevertheless.

I went to my first Phish show this week (no smart comments - the ticket was free!) and I saw a guy seated in the back with a notebook and laptop taking notes. I overheard him talking to friends about "Phish stats." Meanwhile, everyone else was dancing and having fun.

Which Phish show did you hit, out of curiosity, and what did you think of it?

To stay on subject, here's another site w/ further Furthur stats and info...

I went to the second show in Atlanta (6/15/11) at the Verizon Amphitheater.

I enjoyed what I saw, but I cut out early. The weather was horrendous (heavy rain, lightning, wind, etc.) Three trees at the perimeter of the venue were taken down by lightning. One so close to me that a woman grabbed my hand, said "I'm Susie" and evidently prepared for death. I was ready to say the Lord's Prayer with her...

Yes, someone likes PowerPoint quite a bit. Give me an old' fashioned DeadBase type book. Not that I'm looking for a Furthur 'DB', just sayin'.

I haven't heard, 'Colors of the Rain' (how many rain songs is that?), but I'll give it a whirl.

Reminds me of one of my all time favorite lines in a song,

'Different colors made of tears.'
